Compound Bows for the End of Days
Compound Bows for the End of Days
You may have noticed the modern day resurgence of interest in compound bows, recurve and longbows in popular culture including high rating TV shows and Movies. In fact, one of the most popular movies of modern time “Hunger Games” has an archer as the main star. Compound Bows are not only in this movie but countless others like Robin Hood, Lord of the Rings, Troy, Narnia, Scorpion King and of course Rambo part 3. Not to mention TV series such as Arrow or Game of Thrones.
There also seems to be a recurring theme in "End of Days" or dooms day movies/TV series to favor the compound bow or other forms such as the longbow or recurve bow. These appear in movies such as The Book of Eli, The Road, etc...
So the question is, why are archery products and supplies favored by movie producer as the weapon of choice for the end of the world? Well, there are many theories hypothesizing that a Bow and Arrow of some kind would be somewhat more reliable in an end of days type situation. The theorist say that firearm ammunition will eventually if not almost immediately be exhausted whilst arrows are reusable, do not loose effectiveness when wet then dried, don’t rust, are easier to transport as you are reusing 100% of the projectile as opposed to bullets that have a lot of redundant single use and discarded parts.
In theory arrows could be sourced from common growing bamboo or other plants that will thrive in a population-lacking environment. The Bow itself is seen as more reliable as it doesn’t require as much TLC. It requires far less maintenance than a firearm. A firearm, likes its ammunition can rust easily but also requires constant cleaning which means the survivor must carry extra weights such as a cleaning kit, oils and lubricants, all of which needs to be considered for an apocalyptic or ELE (Extinction Level Event).
So far we have talked about the advantages of carrying and caring for a bow and arrow setup over a firearm but what about usage? The theorists also claim that a bow of some kind would hold some advantages over a firearm. Firstly the shots from a bow are relatively silent (or can be made to be relatively silent). Therefore the survivor can have a better chance of remaining undetected and have a better chance of killing prey. If you don’t believe this then watch YouTube videos of hunters killing 5 foxes in a row whilst remaining in the same spot.
The theorists say that with a firearm the survivor would need to cover a greater distance of land in a hunt as a single shot can send game into flight for kilometers around. Also in theory an arrow is apparently more effective it shooting car tyres and bulletproof Kevlar vest (again this seems to be confirmed in YouTube, especially the bullet proof vest) which could also give the survivor an advantage in an ELE. It seems that even a Farley low pound 50lbs can penetrate a standard issue bulletproof vest.
Atunga has a strong history of providing high quality Compound Bows and other archery supplies.
