All You Need To Know About Bows And Arrows

Knowing basic information about the difference between bows and arrows is not enough. It is a must that you should know how to care for your bow and arrows. Here are some tips on caring for them.

If you are into archery, you need to know basic information about bows and arrows. The notched end of the arrow is mounted against the bowstring, with the pointed head extending just beyond the bow. Using one hand braced against the bow and the other gripping the string, an archer pulls back on the string, storing potential energy in the bow.

Caring for Your Bows and Arrows Bows.

1. Do not string your bow backward. That string will pop off, and that's even worse than dry firing your bow. It'll cause your bow to break.

2. You should replace your string if it already looks ratty. It's better to replace the string than to replace your bow because it broke because the string broke. If you have any doubts at all about the condition of your string, just replace it.

3. Always store your bow in a cool, dry place and avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat and moisture. Do not store your bow when wet. Never use heat to dry your bow.

4. Never ever dry fire your bow. This is because without the weight of that arrow on the string, the shock when the string becomes taut could cause your bow to break into a million pieces. The shock alone is enough to break the bow in half.

5. Shoot only arrows specified suitable for your bow. Arrows which are too light may cause damage to your bow.If your bow fits your draw length, and somebody bigger than you who has a longer draw length pulls it all the way back, they risk breaking it. If you happen to know that your bow is okay to be drawn to your friend's full draw length, then go ahead and let him shoot it.

Arrows

Arrows receive the most tear and wear of all archery equipment. They don't really require a great deal of care, but there are a few things that will keep them in top condition. Read on to find out:

1. Store your arrows upright in a dry, temperature consistent location and ensure the fletchings aren't deformed while stored.

2. Keep your fletchings dry. If they get wet, be sure to dry them as soon as you can by stroking the fletching barbs from base to tip with a small towel/rag/your sleeve to ensure their longevity.

3. If they're separated/deformed, do run your fingers over the fletchings from front to back (point to nock) to check. Between each barb are thousands of natural barbules that help feathers maintain their shape, all you need to do is allow them to catch together and your feathers should look like new.

4. It is also advisable to straighten your arrows regularly. Repeated minor straightening regularly will make your arrows last longer and fly straighter. If an arrow has lodged deep into something and the fletchings are buried, it's better to free the fletchings carefully before pulling the arrow out. If the fletchings are fully embedded, push the arrow through the object and pull it out the other side.
