Quivers

All about Archery Quivers

Quivers are hugely important to an archer and are a really helpful tool. They are designed to carry and hold the supplies of the archer – predominately arrows.

A Quiver creates a safe place to keep equipment in place and helps archers carry the equipment comfortably. There are a variety of quivers, including bow, hip, youth, side and back quivers. Their functions vary in different ways. Here are just a few types and a brief explanation of each.

Solid Mount Quiver

The Solid Mount is permanently attached to the bow, and holds the arrows at about the middle of the bow, this helps with the balance of the bow. They are usually made with the appropriate materials to keep the arrows from rattling and making sure that any movement goes unnoticed. Bow hunters who stalk their prey through open fields and areas sometimes prefer this type of archery quiver because it makes their arrows quickly accessible and prevents their prey from hearing them approach.

Detachable Bow Quiver

This type of archery quiver is probably the most popular for the bow hunter. It attaches to the bow, yet can be easily removed, usually through a quick release. The arrows can be drawn and shot with it still attached as well. This ability gives the hunter the option to remove it if they hunt in a tree stand or blind. The detachable bow quiver can either be purchased with a noise-dampening attachment or can be added by the hunter. It is important that it have a proper hood that will securely hold and protect the arrows.

Hip Quiver or Belt Quiver

The bow hunter who prefers not to have his quiver and arrows attached to his bow in any way uses the hip quiver. It usually has a way to attach to the belt as well as a strap to go around the thigh. This is so it does not swing while walking, stalking and hunting. Removal of the hip quiver is usually quick and easy. They can also be quite artistic in their look. In addition, accessories can usually be added to protect the arrow heads and stop any possible rattles as well as keep them from getting caught and pulled out by limbs, branches and weeds.

Back Quiver

The back quiver (also known as the backpack) is probably the most recognizable of the quivers. They come in a variety of sizes, shapes and materials. They can be very elaborate or very simple, and are a favorite among traditional bow hunters. This type allows the hunter to easily reach behind and retrieve his arrow. Although it may take some time in practicing as well as adjusting for the hunter to get his arrow out quickly and without noise. In addition many backpack types can also be adjusted to use different lengths of arrows, and many hold up to 10 arrows. This is a good choice for those who do not wish to have their quiver attached to their bow, and prefers not to have them strapped to their leg.

Many hunters own a variety of types of hunting quivers. They use the one that works the best for the type and area of hunting they will be enjoying. Yet, experienced bow hunters will all agree one of the most important aspects of their quiver is that it is quiet.

Looking for a good archery quiver isn't always a straightforward task. While there are tons of different choices open to you, there are a lot of different styles that both serve different purposes and appear very different; selecting an archery quiver has more to do with your intended uses and your personal preferences. Irrespective of what kind of archery quiver you are looking for considering some other fundamental things, such as the quantity for arrows you will be expecting to hold.

Typically quivers have room for between 5 and 10 arrows; however this varies a great deal from one model to the next. In addition to the archery quiver itself, you may want to consider if you have any other uses or needs. As an example, many quivers basically are actually a piece of a bigger bag or pack that features many alternative storage compartments. Plenty of these are detachable, so when you take away the archery quiver from the base pack or bag, you are left with a convenient, easy to move bag and you will be unfettered by the quiver itself.

If you were after a more unique and traditional type of quiver, (something you would recognize from a classic film such as Robin Hood). A brown leather quiver with a shoulder and cross body strap makes it easy to tug off the traditionalist look. If you are hunting, then you may probably wish to opt for an archery quiver that's much different to the standard archery type quivers. There is a big selection of disguised quivers, which you can wear on your back to help blend in as much as practicable with the environment.

The good news is that for the main part, you do not need to spend a great amount of money to find a quality archery quiver. Actually, plenty of the basic quivers are extremely affordable. As you start looking for more features and functionality, then you of course start adding more to the cost.

As you can see, when finding an archery quiver you've got to think about your style and about what your intended uses are. If you think about all the above factors, you'll be able to find an archery quiver that's a great match up for you and your requirements. If you do choose to use a hip quiver, make sure the arrows don’t rattle around with the slightest movement. Most can hold anywhere from three to a dozen arrows. Quivers are meant not only to keep the arrows close-by but are also designed for safety as well. Ultimately, the kind of quiver you choose must fit your personal needs. Some hunters might think a quiver has a nice fit, is practical and easy to use, while another hunter will think the same quiver is terribly uncomfortable. Archery is all about enjoyment, whether it be hunting or shooting targets, keep that in mind when choosing the right equipment for you.
